Paid Holiday Mandated for 2026 Assembly Polls
The **Election Commission of India (ECI)** has announced paid holidays for voters on polling days during the upcoming 2026 General Elections and Bye-elections.
- Polls for Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, Tripura are on April 9, 2026.
- Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra polls are on April 23, 2026.
- West Bengal will have polls on April 23, 2026 (Phase I) and April 29, 2026 (Phase II).
- Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 mandates paid holiday on polling day.
- Daily wage and casual workers are also entitled to a paid holiday.
- Voters working outside their constituency but registered there are also entitled to this benefit.
