India-New Zealand FTA: Beyond Tariffs, Comprehensive Partnership

New Project Boosts Grassroots Biodiversity Governance in Two States
A five-year project aims to empower local communities and institutions for biodiversity conservation in Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya.
- The MoEFCC and NBA launched a five-year project (2025–2030) with USD 4.88 million grant.

Small Hydro Power Scheme Approved with ₹2,584.60 Crore Outlay
The Union Cabinet has approved a new scheme to boost small hydro power capacity across India, especially in hilly and North Eastern states.
- The Small Hydro Power Development Scheme has an outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore for FY 2026–27 to FY 2030–31.
- The scheme aims to add approximately 1,500 MW of new small hydro power capacity.
- Financial assistance varies: ₹3.6 crore/MW (max ₹30 crore) for North Eastern States and International Border Districts.
- Other locations receive ₹2.4 crore/MW (max ₹20 crore), or 20% of project cost, whichever is lower.
- It is expected to generate 51 lakh person-days of employment during construction.
