ECI Implements QR-Based ID System for Counting Centres
The Election Commission introduces a QR code-based system to enhance security and prevent unauthorized entry at election counting centres.
- ECI introduced a QR code-based Photo Identity Card module on ECINET.
- System will start with counting on May 04, 2026, for General Elections.
- It will apply to Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies elections.
- A three-tier security mechanism includes QR code scanning at the innermost cordon.
- Media entry continues with authority letters from ECI, not QR.

Revised Export Duty Rates for Diesel, ATF Notified
The government has updated Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED)/Road and Infrastructure Cess (RIC) on fuel exports for the next fortnight.
- Duty on exports of diesel will be Rs. 23 per litre (SAED - Rs. 23; RIC - Nil).
- Duty on exports of ATF will be Rs. 33 per litre (SAED only).
- The duty on exports of petrol continues to remain Nil.
- These rates apply for the fortnight beginning 1st May, 2026.
- Export levies were introduced effective 27th March, 2026.
- Rates are revised fortnightly, based on average international prices.
💡 Remember: Diesel at 23, ATF at 33, Petrol Nil, from May 1, 2026, to manage domestic fuel availability.

UPI Celebrates 10 Years, Achieves Global Real-Time Payments Leadership
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) completed 10 years, emerging as the world's largest real-time payments platform.
- UPI was launched on April 11, 2016, by NPCI under RBI oversight.
- Transaction volume surged 12,000-fold to 24,162 crore in FY 2025-26.
- Transaction value exceeded ₹314 lakh crore in FY 2025-26.
- More than 700 banks are now onboarded, up from 21 banks in 2016.
- UPI accounts for nearly 49% of global real-time payment volume as of 2024.

NARCL accelerates stressed asset recoveries, strengthens financial sector resilience
The National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL) significantly boosted stressed asset recoveries in FY 2025–26, improving banking sector health.
- NARCL recovered ₹4,364 crore in FY 2025–26.
- This contributed nearly 70% of total cumulative recoveries of ₹6,345 crore.
- As of March 2026, NARCL acquired 33 borrower entities.
- These entities had an aggregate debt exposure of ₹1,65,862 crore.
- Three accounts were fully resolved, with recoveries of 148%, 115%, and 183%.

58 Companies Eligible for Critical Mineral Recycling Scheme
An incentive scheme to boost domestic recycling capacity for critical minerals has approved 58 companies.
- The Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Critical Mineral Recycling has an outlay of ₹1,500 crore.
- The scheme was notified on 2nd October 2025 under the National Critical Mineral Mission.
- It targets critical minerals from lithium-ion batteries, e-waste, and industrial scrap.
- A total of 58 entities were approved by the Executive Committee (EC) as eligible.
- These companies pledged a capacity of 850 KTPA and an investment of ₹5,000 crore.
💡 Remember: 58 companies, ₹1,500 Cr outlay, targeting critical mineral recycling for reduced import dependence.

Online Gaming Rules, 2026 Operationalize PROG Act, 2025
The **Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026** come into force on May 1, 2026, shaping India's digital gaming landscape.
- The Rules flow from the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025, enacted in August 2025.
- The Act imposes a complete ban on all forms of online money games.
- Offering such games may attract imprisonment of up to three years or a fine up to one crore rupees.
- The Rules establish the Online Gaming Authority of India as a unified regulator.
- The Authority's classification process for games is to be completed, as far as practicable, within 90 days.
