SMC Guidelines 2026: Exclusions for Unaided Private Schools
Ministry of Education clarified the applicability of **School Management Committee (SMC) Guidelines 2026** for certain schools.
- SMC Guidelines 2026 launched on 6th May 2026.
- They aim to strengthen community participation and decentralized governance.
- Clarified via communication on 20th May 2026.
- Schools under RTE Act, 2009 Section 2(n)(iv) are excluded.
- Exclusion applies if schools receive no government aid or grants.
💡 Unaided private schools (RTE Act, 2009 Section 2(n)(iv)) are exempt from SMC Guidelines 2026.

DRI Busts E-Cigarette Smuggling Ring, Seizes ₹120 Crore Vapes
The **Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)** cracked down on a large e-cigarette smuggling racket across four states.
- DRI seized nearly 3,00,000 e-cigarettes/vapes valued at over Rs 120 crore.
- Smuggling operations were active in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, and West Bengal.
- E-cigarettes were sourced from China and mis-declared as 'Furniture' or 'Metal Chair Parts'.
- Electronic cigarettes are prohibited under The Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.

UPSC Adds 3 New Exam Centres, Increases Accessibility
UPSC introduced three new examination centres for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination-2026 to ease congestion.
- Three new centres were added: Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, and Meerut.
- Total centres for the Prelims increased from 80 to 83.
- Nearly 23,000 candidates opted for these new centres.
- 805 PwBD candidates got their preferred centre in Delhi alone.
- A total of 8,19,372 applications were received for CSP-2026.
