BRICS Indore Declaration: A Global Charter for Agriculture

BRICS Agriculture Ministers Conclude Meeting in Indore, India
The 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting, chaired by India, concluded in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 12-13 June 2026.
- The meeting was held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh under India’s Chairship on 12–13 June 2026.
- Agreed to establish BRICS Network of Centres of Excellence on Agroecology and Regenerative Agriculture, coordinated by ICAR–Indian Institute of Farming System Research (IIFSR).
- A Network on Digital Agriculture among BRICS countries will be coordinated by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
- Launched the Global Forum on Farmers’ Rights in Seed Systems, coordinated by Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA).
- Agreed to establish BRICS AGRIN (Agro-Inputs, Genetic Resources and Information Network) Framework.
- Delegates participated in a 'BRICS Vatika' tree plantation ceremony.

Agrobiodiversity Expert Committee Reconstituted with Padma Shri Dr. P. L. Gautam
The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has reconstituted its Expert Committee on Agrobiodiversity for one year.
- Dr. P. L. Gautam chairs the reconstituted committee.
- The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPVFRA) Chairperson is Co-Chair.
- The committee advises NBA on agricultural biodiversity, guided by Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
- It supports India's engagement with ITPGRFA and SDG 2, 13, 15.
