Foreign University Campuses: 16 LOIs Issued in India
UGC has issued Letters of Intent to 15 foreign institutions for establishing campuses in India.
- UGC issued 16 Letters of Intent (LoIs) to 15 FHEIs from 4 countries.
- These FHEIs will offer programs in emerging fields like AI and data science.
- Only FHEIs ranked within the top 500 globally are eligible.
- A Facilitation Committee for FHEIs was constituted on 16 December 2025.

Green Credit Programme: Incentivising Environmental Actions and Forest Restoration
The Green Credit Programme (GCP) incentivises environmentally positive actions, promoting Mission LiFE objectives through Green Credit Rules, 2023.
- Green Credit Rules, 2023 were notified on October 12, 2023, under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
- Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Dehradun, is the Administrator for implementation and credit issuance.
- Applicants can claim credits after five years of restoration and 40 per cent canopy density.
- Modality for tree plantation was revised on August 29, 2025.
- State Forest Department selects and registers degraded land parcels.
- Benefits local communities via timber, non-timber produce, fodder, and ecosystem services.
💡 Remember: GCP uses Green Credit Rules, 2023 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, administered by ICFRE, and requires five years/40% canopy for credits.

Kisan Credit Card Scheme Boosts Farm Value Addition, Digitization
A third-party assessment highlights the **KCC-MISS**'s significant contribution to agriculture and allied sectors, alongside new technological interventions.

India Achieves Near-Universal Banking Coverage and Financial Inclusion
India has reached near-universal banking coverage, with 99.92% of villages now having access to banking services within a 5 km radius.
- India has achieved 99.92% banking coverage across 6,00,868 inhabited villages.
- This is supported by over 1.81 lakh bank branches, 17.36 lakh Business Correspondents.
- Also, 1.65 lakh India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) centers bolster the network as on 17.07.2026.
- There are 58.77 crore PMJDY accounts with a balance of ₹3,12,414 Crore as on 17.07.2026.
- The Kisan Rin Portal (KRP) was launched in September 2023 for agricultural credit.
- The government and RBI formed India Digital Payment Intelligence Corporation (IDPIC) to combat fraud.
- RBI launched 'MuleHunter', an AI-based tool to identify money mules.
- MHA launched the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and helpline '1930' for cyber incidents.

**PM-SYM** crosses 54 Lakh beneficiaries for unorganised sector workers
The **Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM)** scheme provides old age protection to unorganised sector workers.
- More than 54 lakh beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM as of 29.07.2026.
- Launched in February, 2019, it offers an assured monthly pension of Rs. 3000/- after age 60.
- Eligible workers are aged 18 to 40 with monthly income Rs. 15000/- or less.
- Government provides 50% matching contribution, amounting to Rs. 2,011.01 crore.
- Pension disbursement under PM-SYM will begin no earlier than February, 2039.
💡 PM-SYM provides Rs. 3000 monthly pension after 60 to eligible unorganised workers.

eShram Portal Registers 31.82 Crore Unorganised Workers
The eShram portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, has registered over 31.82 crore unorganised workers.
- eShram portal launched on 26th August, 2021 to create a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW).
- Over 31.82 crore unorganised workers registered on eShram portal till date.
- eShram–“One-Stop-Solution” launched on 21st October 2024 to integrate social security schemes.
- Fifteen (15) central schemes are integrated, including PMSVANidhi and PMJJBY.
- Registrations require Aadhaar-based eKYC to ensure data authenticity.

CVC Reforms Dramatically Reduce Disciplinary Case Pendency
The **CVC's** reforms, including technology adoption, have sharply cut disciplinary case pendency from over 4,000 to nearly 700.

Samudra Manthan Scheme Boosts Offshore Hydrocarbon Exploration
The **National Offshore Exploration Scheme** aims to enhance India's energy security and reduce import dependence through accelerated offshore hydrocarbon exploration.
- The Samudra Manthan scheme was approved on July 31, 2026.
- Phase-I has an outlay of ₹84,084 crore up to FY 2030–31.
- It targets adding over 600 MMTOE of hydrocarbon reserves.
- ₹43,200 crore is allocated for drilling 60 deepwater/ultra-deepwater wells.
- Financial support covers up to 50 percent of drilling cost, or ₹675 crore per well.
- An integrated Oil and Gas Manufacturing and Services Zone will be established with ₹2,000 crore.
