India’s First Free-Space Quantum Key Distribution Link
India successfully demonstrated its first free-space Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) link over 5.56 km, establishing secure quantum communication.
- The 5.56 km link was demonstrated by QNu Labs, BISAG-N, and IIT Gandhinagar.
- Achieved a Quantum Bit Error Rate below 5% and generated secure keys at 230–260 bps.
- Integrated QNu Labs' hardware-based QKD with BISAG-N's Vedic Kavach platform.
- The trial occurred on September 27–28.
- It combines QKD (hardware) with post-quantum cryptography (software).

Great Indian Bustards Released into Wild at Desert National Park
After 10 years of effort, captive-bred **Great Indian Bustards (GIBs)** are being released into the wild in **Rajasthan**.
- On October 3, 2026, two captive-bred GIBs were released into the wild at Desert National Park, Jaisalmer.
- The Rewilding Aviary at Ramdevra, costing ₹9.25 crore, provides flight space for GIBs.
- The conservation-breeding programme houses 97 GIBs, with 11 earmarked for release.
- In 2025 and 2026, captive reproduction resulted in 24 and 29 live chicks, respectively.

India Secures Deportation of Narco-Kingpin from Türkiye
India achieved a significant milestone by securing the deportation of **Navpreet Singh**, a narco-trafficking kingpin, from Türkiye.
- Navpreet Singh, alias Navab Virk, smuggled heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India.
- Since 2019 to August 2026, 288 fugitives have been brought back from 36 countries.
- BHARATPOL was launched in January 2025 to enhance information sharing between law enforcement agencies.
- Assets worth ₹17,874 crore belonging to fugitives were attached under PMLA between 2019 and 2026.

PM-SETU Completes One Year, Transforms India's ITIs
The **PM-SETU** scheme, launched on **October 4, 2025**, has completed one year, focusing on upgrading **Government ITIs** and **NSTIs**.
- PM-SETU has an outlay of ₹60,000 crore, with contributions from Centre, States, and industry.
- It aims to upgrade 1,000 Government ITIs using a Hub-and-Spoke model and augment 5 NSTIs.
- As of October 3, 2026, 850 ITIs have been identified and 14 ITI clusters approved.
- The scheme incorporates industry participation through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) with 51% ownership by Anchor Industry Partners.
