Online Gaming Rules 2026: New Regulatory Framework for Digital Games
The Ministry of Electronics and IT has released new rules to regulate online gaming, differentiating between money games, social games, and e-sports.
- The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 will come into force on 1st May, 2026.
- It establishes the Online Gaming Authority of India as a unified regulator, an attached office of MeitY.
- The Authority will classify games within 90 days as online money games or permissible ones.
- A digital Certificate of Registration will be issued, valid for up to 10 years.
- A two-tier grievance redressal mechanism includes the Authority and the Secretary, MeitY as Appellate Authority.
