TRAI Amends Digital Connectivity Property Rating Regulations 2026
TRAI released amendments to its digital connectivity rating regulations on May 13, 2026, aiming to enhance transparency and improve implementation.
- The TRAI released the 'Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity (Amendment) Regulations, 2026 (3 of 2026)' on 13th May 2026.
- The rating framework now features nine levels, including additional half-star levels, expanding from five levels.
- Under-construction properties are now eligible for ratings through a phased assessment leading to a ‘Designed For’ certificate.
- An Optional Digital Connectivity Audit allows property managers to assess infrastructure without a formal rating.
- References to the National Building Code (NBC), 2016 have been substituted with National Building Construction Standards (NBCS), 2026.

ECI's Special Intensive Revision Phase-III for Electoral Rolls
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) for electoral rolls across 16 States and 3 UTs.
- SIR Phase-III will cover 16 States and 3 UTs, excluding Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
- Over 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits for 36.73 crore electors.
- 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs), appointed by political parties, will assist during the enumeration.
- The SIR aims for full participation of political parties and transparency.
- Previous two phases involved 6.3 lakh BLOs and 9.2 lakh BLAs covering 59 crore electors.
💡 For the exam: Remember SIR Phase-III covers 16+3, uses BLOs/BLAs for 36.73 cr electors, and excludes HP/J&K/Ladakh.

Wholesale Price Index Inflation Rises to 8.3% in April 2026
India's annual WPI inflation rate reached 8.3% (provisional) in April 2026, driven primarily by increased fuel and mineral oil prices.
- The All India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) annual inflation rate for April 2026 was 8.3%.
- This rise is mainly due to increased prices of mineral oils, crude petroleum & natural gas, and basic metals.
- The Fuel & Power group saw the highest inflation at 24.71% in April 2026.
- The WPI Food Index inflation also increased to 2.31% in April 2026.

MSME Formalization and Credit Support Boosts Economy
Government initiatives have accelerated MSME formalization, significantly boosting their contribution to GDP, exports, and employment.
- MSMEs contribute over 31% to India's GDP and 48.58% to total exports.
- Over 7.9 crore MSMEs were registered through Udyam and Udyam Assist Platforms by March 2026.
- The Credit Guarantee Scheme (CGS) ceiling increased from ₹5 crore to ₹10 crore from April 1, 2025.
- Self-Reliant India (SRI) Fund has supported 682 MSMEs with ₹15,442 crore investments by November 2025.
- The SAMADHAAN Portal addresses delayed payments, recovering ₹1,65,034 crore by December 2022.

India Included in EU Draft List for Aquaculture Exports
The EU has included India in its revised draft list for continued aquaculture product exports, reversing an earlier omission.
- EU's revised draft list, published 12 May 2026, allows India to export beyond September 2026.
- Earlier 4 October 2024 regulation (EU 2024/2598) had omitted India from authorized countries.
- Compliance with EU 2023/905 on antimicrobial use in animals was key for inclusion.
- The EU was India's third-largest seafood market in 2025–26, with exports reaching US$ 1.593 billion.
- Exports to EU grew 41.45 per cent in value and 38.29 per cent in quantity in 2025-26.
- Efforts by MPEDA and EIC, plus National Residue Control Programme, were recognized.
💡 India's aquaculture exports to the EU, valued at US$ 1.593 billion in 2025-26, will continue beyond September 2026 after compliance with antimicrobial regulations.

A workshop introduced **BIRSA 101**, India’s first indigenous CRISPR-based gene therapy for Sickle Cell Disease, developed with tribal welfare in mind.
- BIRSA 101 is India's first indigenous CRISPR-based gene therapy for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, CSIR, and CSIR-IGIB organized the workshop on May 14, 2026.
- It was celebrated under Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026, focusing on technology for tribal development.
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs supported the project with Rs. 3.75 crores.
- Technology transfer is to Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd. for clinical development.
