Vibrant Villages Programme: Strengthening Border Communities and Security
Launched in 2023, the **Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP)** aims to accelerate comprehensive development in selected villages along India's land borders.
- The VVP has a combined outlay of Rs 11,639 crore across its two phases.
- It was launched in 2023 to develop border villages as "first villages," not last.
- The VVP-I phase covers northern border villages (Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Ladakh).
- The VVP-II phase, approved on 2nd April 2025, extends to all other land borders with an outlay of Rs 6,839 crores.
- Both phases aim to improve living conditions, generate livelihoods, and empower border communities.

16th National Meet Discusses Biodiversity Governance Framework
The **16th National Meet** of **State Biodiversity Boards** and **Union Territory Biodiversity Councils** was held in **Chandigarh** to discuss implementing the biodiversity governance framework.
- The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) organized the two-day meet from 6–7 September 2026.
- Union Environment Minister urged States/UTs to align processes with the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Act, 2023 and Rules, 2024.
- The NBA has shared over ₹200 crore in ABS funds with various stakeholders.
- India's Updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2024–2030 aligns with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

New Appointments to National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Announced
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has announced new appointments for the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK).
- Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana is appointed as Chairperson of NCSK.
- Shri Kaishab Bihari is appointed as Vice-Chairperson of NCSK.
- Members appointed are Shri Manoj Kumar Balmiki, Smt. Sushma Gaudiyal, and Shri Ravi Ramu Kalose.
- Appointments are effective until March 31, 2028.
💡 Remember Makwana as Chairperson of NCSK till March 2028.
