New Standard Pack Sizes for Edible Oils under Metrology Framework
The Department of Consumer Affairs amended the Standard Operating Procedure for edible oils to ensure uniform packaging and transparency.
- The Department of Consumer Affairs amended the SoP for Legal Metrology framework on 29.12.2023.
- New standard pack sizes include 200 ml/g, 500 ml/g, 1 litre/kg, 2 litre/kg, 3 litre/kg, 4 litre/kg, 5 litre/kg, 15 litre/kg, and 20 litre/kg.
- Manufacturers, packers, and importers have a three-month transition period to comply.
- Both volume (litres/millilitres) and equivalent weight must be declared for transparency.
- Packages below 200 ml or 200 grams are outside standardisation scope.
💡 Remember edible oils now have specific standard pack sizes and require both volume and weight declaration, with a three-month transition.

PM chairs Economic Advisory Council meeting for economic transformation
The Prime Minister chaired a meeting with the EAC-PM to discuss India's economic transformation and development priorities.

India Reforms G-Secs to Attract Foreign Investment
India has implemented tax exemptions and expanded the Fully Accessible Route (FAR) to boost foreign participation in Government Securities (G-Secs).
- Tax exemptions now apply to interest income and capital gains from G-Secs for FPIs/FIIs.
- The exemption applies to income arising on or after 1 April 2026 via Income-tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026.
- The Fully Accessible Route (FAR) now includes new issuances of 15, 30, and 40-year Government Securities.
- Other reforms include merging FPI investment categories and removing short-term investment limits under the General Route.
💡 For the exam: Remember G-Secs reform = tax exemption from April 2026 + FAR expansion (new long-term G-Secs, Green Bonds) + General Route simplification (limits removed).

Ayushman Bharat Scheme: Universal Health Coverage Milestones
Launched in 2018, the **Ayushman Bharat** scheme is India's ambitious program for universal health coverage, strengthening preventive, promotive, curative, and digital healthcare.
- AB-PMJAY provides free public health insurance up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year to 12 crore socio-economically deprived families.
- As of June 5, 2026, 44.14 crore Ayushman Cards were created, covering 12.03 crore hospitalisations worth Rs. 1,80,435 crore.
- In October 2024, Ayushman Bharat Vay Vandana expanded coverage to all senior citizens above 70 years.
- Over 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) are functional, offering 12 free services and recording over 540 crore cumulative footfall.
- The Ayushman App, available in 19 regional languages, helps beneficiaries verify eligibility and locate hospitals.
💡 For the exam: Remember Ayushman Bharat's two pillars: AB-PMJAY for insurance (Rs. 5 lakh for ~12 crore families, expanded to over 70s in Oct 2024) and AAMs for primary care (1.86+ lakh centers, 12 free services).
